A Late Discovery (But Better Late Than Never)
This week, I discovered the power of sticky notes. I’m not sure how I made it to 46 without truly harnessing their potential for self-organisation, but now?
I predict I’m going to be unstoppable.
Already, my writing room wall is blooming with colour, and I’m heading to the newsagency this afternoon to treat myself to the good ones—you know, the ones with brighter colours and enhanced adhesive.
It’ll be my little Friday reward after a hectic week at work, and all those extra hours spent on Read-Easy and novel writing.
The Brain Switch I Didn't See Coming
So what’s the magic switch that sticky notes have flicked in my previously disorganised brain?
As productivity expert Angela Lockwood (www.angelalockwood.com.au) explains, sticky notes can help you:
Organise tasks and priorities
Break down large projects
Make mental thoughts visual
Create a visual timeline
Act as daily reminders
Summarise complex information
Putting the Power to Work: Sticky Notes for Productivity
This week, I tapped into their superpowers to organise my Read-Easy marketing and admin tasks—and it worked.
Having small, visually digestible goals did wonders for my ability to move forward. Even better was the satisfying rip of tearing them down as I completed each one.
For the first time in a long time, I ticked off everything on my to-do list and I was a convert: sticky notes for productivity are now part of my religion.
Bringing Order to My Novel
This weekend, I’m shifting gears and using sticky notes to build a visual timeline for my novel. I’m 22,000 words in, and things are starting to get tangled.
I have a beautiful, blank wall just waiting to be filled, and I already know that being able to glance up and access key details—plot threads, character arcs, and how the magic system works—is going to transform my writing process.
A Simple System That Sticks
It’s amazing how something so simple can have such a powerful effect on focus and productivity.
I’ve never been great at sticking to systems—but when I find one that works?
Well, I stick with it.
